Krypton Comics is a privately owned comic and hobby store. Located in Omaha Nebraska for the past 30 years, Krypton has become the largest comic book store in the area. We offer a giant selection of collectibles including:

The Artist Jam

What is The Artist Jam?

For the past 18 years, Krypton Comics has hosted The Artist Jam in order to gather artists and like-minded creative types together into an inclusive, creative community to draw, create, socialize and network. In the time since it’s inception, the Artist Jam has been featured in the Omaha World-Herald, The Comics Journal and The Comics Beat, and has become a well know event within Omaha.

The Artist Jam (usually) occurs every third Saturday of the month from 12noon till 6pm in the gaming area of the store. It is free to all ages, and is a competiton free place for artists to come and draw, paint, craft, etc. .

Guidelines/Rules

• Respect other artists at all times.
• The Jam is open to everyone regardless of skill or age.
• Often times members bring food to share. Feel free to share in it. Also feel free to bring a food donation!
• This is not a place for competion. We are all equals.
• The Jam is a safe place for all genders, races, sexual orientations and religions. Hate, bigotry and intolerance will not be allowed.
• Family members, friends, onlookers and other interested folks are more than welcome to hang out and watch. Grab a seat, we don’t mind.
• The Artist Jams are not a structured drawing classes or a club with a membership. The idea behind the jams are to meet other artists, talk, share and enjoy.
• Respect the store’s policies and requests. Krypton Comics gives us a place to do this event at no cost to the artists, so please respect the space.
• Please make sure to clean up after yourself before you leave. Pick up anything that may have fallen onto the floor, throw away any trash or fast food rubbish.
• You are welcomed to commission Artist Jam artists for work. You are not allowed to ask for free artwork.
• Non-vetted Solicitors are NOT welcomed.

The History of the Artist Jam

Early on, Dean had an idea: he had always envisioned having a creative event in the shop as a way to promote comics culture to everyone. He had hoped to have an area in his shop where there would be art desks set up so that anyone who wanted to could come, sit down, and make comics.

By September 2005 as a way for local comic book artists Fredd Gorham & Max Riffner to get out of the house and spend time at their favorite comicbook shop, they concocted the idea to hang out on a Saturday afternoon to just draw while being surrounded by all the things they love. They approached Dean, and that was when the Artist Jam was born.
